this residential scheme is a single storey extension and refurbishment of a grade 2 listed building in a conservation area. in response to the sensitive nature of the site and local planning constraints, our proposals utilise a split level garden, which has enabled us to create a low-impact rear extension that is set away from the main building; the design allows the pattern of rear courtyard spaces along the listed terrace to be maintained, and fulfils our client's requirement for a high quality flexible living space with no loss of garden space. the practice was commissioned to carry out outline and detailed design for the project in winter 2009.
